General Questions

What is Kansha?

Kansha (感謝 — Japanese for “gratitude”) is a gratitude-based classroom and school management tool. It helps teachers organize their classroom, recognize positive behavior with a token-based reward economy, and run classroom and school stores — building a culture of recognition and gratitude along the way.

Core capabilities:

  • Token-Based Rewards: Award tokens for positive behavior, achievements, and acts of kindness
  • Classroom & School Stores: Reward stores at the classroom or building level, where students spend tokens on teacher-defined rewards
  • Bank & Savings: Optional interest on balances for financial-literacy habits — plus raffles, auctions, community goals, and peer token gifts with a kind note picked from a fixed list
  • Groups & Competitions: Teams that work toward shared classroom goals
  • Classroom Games: 13 teacher-led and arcade games (including Name Wheel, Four Corners, and The Maze) run from the teacher’s screen or played by students
  • AI Coin Maker & Branding Studio: Design your class’s own coin and look
  • Class World & Surveys: A shared 3D classroom space and quick classroom polls
  • Teacher Dashboard & Tools: Award tokens, manage rewards, see your classroom totals at a glance — plus timer, stopwatch, and a name wheel

Everything sits on a privacy-first platform: roster data is encrypted at rest, visible only to the teacher who created it, and never sold or shared for advertising.

Who is Kansha for?

K–12 Classroom Teachers — Teachers who want to organize their classroom, reinforce positive behaviors, and run a token-based reward economy — without the privacy headaches of typical classroom apps.

School Administrators — IT departments and administrators looking for a classroom management tool with strong roster encryption and no advertising, plus school-wide tools: a shared school store, a school currency name and coin, school hours, and teacher management.

What can teachers actually do with Kansha?

Day-to-day, teachers use Kansha to:

  • Build and manage classroom rosters (manually or by importing from Google Classroom)
  • Award and revoke tokens for positive (and other) classroom behaviors
  • Configure a classroom store with reward items priced in tokens
  • Coordinate a school-wide store across classrooms (for school admins)
  • Run classroom games projected from the teacher’s screen
  • Use in-classroom utilities: timer, stopwatch, name picker
How much does Kansha cost?

Kansha has a free plan and two paid subscriptions, priced per teacher seat:

  • Free — $0/month: the token economy, store, bank, raffles, Class World, and a starter set of games, across up to 2 classrooms (plus a demo class)
  • Silver — $9/month: unlimited classrooms, the Silver game library, AI generation for coins, group art, and branding, and Google Classroom roster sync
  • Premium — $19/month: the full game library, read-aloud, the school admin console, and dedicated support

Full details are on the pricing page (teacher sign-in).

PBIS Schools & Districts

How does Kansha fit into a PBIS framework?

Kansha handles the acknowledgement part of Tier 1 — the moment a teacher notices a student meeting one of your school’s expectations and rewards it. It replaces paper tickets, punch cards, and point charts with tokens students can see, save, and spend.

  • Your expectations stay yours. Kansha doesn’t ask you to change your matrix or your language — teachers award tokens for whatever your school has agreed to recognize
  • Acknowledgement is fast. One tap awards a student or the whole class, so it happens in the moment instead of at the end of the day
  • Rewards are school-wide. Every classroom shares one school store, so a token earned in any classroom buys the same rewards
  • Balances never go negative. Teachers can take tokens back to correct a mistake, but a balance can’t drop below zero
What is a PBIS school in Kansha?

When your school joins as a PBIS school, every teacher in the building gets a PBIS Economy section in their sidebar with two tools built for PBIS rollouts:

  • PBIS quick setup for each classroom — creates a weekly Friday Raffle with three prizes, a Class Party goal the whole class saves toward, 5% weekly savings interest, and a default award of 5 tokens, all in one step. Teachers untick anything they already do their own way
  • A ready-made school store — school admins stock the shared store in one click with more than 20 classic PBIS rewards (privileges, social rewards, tangibles, and activities), priced from 10 to 100 tokens. Everything can be edited, re-priced, or removed afterwards

To join as a PBIS school, say so in the note when you request access and we’ll set your school up that way. PBIS mode works on every plan, including Free.

Can our school use one currency name across every classroom?

Yes. A school admin names the currency once — Kansha suggests names built from your mascot, like “Panther Bucks” or “Panther Paws”, or you can type your own — and every classroom in the school uses it straight away. Students across the building earn and spend the same currency, which keeps your acknowledgement system recognizable from room to room.

School admins can also design a school coin, set school hours (students can’t sign in outside them), and add or remove teachers.

How does Kansha keep acknowledgement going all year?

Point charts tend to lose their pull by mid-year. Kansha gives students more to do with what they earn, so the system stays meaningful:

  • Savings with interest — balances grow while students hold them, rewarding patience
  • Raffles and auctions — big prizes stay within reach of every student, not just the top earners
  • Community goals — the whole class pledges toward a shared reward, turning individual acknowledgement into collective effort
  • Peer token gifts — students thank classmates with a token and a kind note picked from a fixed list
  • Class jobs — students earn a regular salary for classroom roles
How can Kansha help a district that uses PBIS?

Each school in your district is set up as its own school in Kansha, with its own admins, store, currency name, and coin — so every building can match its own PBIS matrix and mascot while using the same platform.

  • Start with a pilot. The Free plan covers up to 2 classrooms per teacher, so a few teachers or one building can try Kansha at no cost before a wider rollout
  • Consistent setup across buildings. PBIS quick setup and the starter store give every school the same proven starting point in minutes
  • English and Spanish. Teachers and students can use Kansha in either language
  • Rosters without retyping. Teachers can paste a class list or import it from Google Classroom
  • Privacy that passes review. Student names are encrypted at rest, students sign in without email addresses, and data is never sold or used for ads — see Privacy & Safety below

Planning a rollout across several schools, or need answers for a privacy review? Contact us and we’ll talk it through.

Does Kansha replace our behavior data system?

No — and it isn’t meant to. Kansha is where students are acknowledged and rewarded. It is not a discipline-referral or incident-tracking tool, it doesn’t manage Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions such as Check-In/Check-Out, and it doesn’t connect to a student information system. Keep using your existing behavior data system for referrals and team decision-making.

Inside Kansha, teachers can see each student’s full token history — every award, purchase, and correction — on the student’s profile.

Privacy & Safety

How is roster data protected?

Roster data is protected at every layer of the platform:

  • Encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM before being written to the database
  • Server-side keys — encryption and decryption happen only on our servers, never in the browser
  • Visible only to the teacher who created the roster — no other teacher can see another classroom’s names
  • Stored in secure cloud infrastructure (Firebase / Google Cloud Platform)
  • Automatically deleted after 12 months of classroom inactivity, or any time the teacher requests it

For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Do students sign up for Kansha themselves?

No. Students do not register for Kansha and do not provide email addresses, dates of birth, or any other personal information directly. Rosters are created and managed entirely by the teacher.

Students may log in inside the classroom (using a teacher-issued classroom code and a simple password) so they can check their token balance, browse the classroom store, or join a classroom game — but the records themselves are owned and controlled by the teacher.

Is roster data ever sold or used for ads?

No. Never.

  • We do not sell roster data, teacher data, or any other user data — to anyone, ever.
  • We do not run ads inside Kansha and we do not share data with advertising networks.
  • We use Firebase Analytics for basic, aggregate usage statistics (no roster PII, no advertising use) and Sentry for error monitoring with automatic redaction of personal information. There is no Mixpanel, Segment, LogRocket, session recording, or data broker — see the Sub-Processors section of our Privacy Policy for the complete list.
Is roster data sent to AI services like OpenAI or Anthropic?

Roster data — never. Kansha’s AI features are all teacher-facing design tools: image generation for coins, branding, group art, and store pictures (via OpenAI and Google Gemini/Imagen), plus token-name and theme suggestions and photo-based store item identification (via Anthropic). Those providers receive only the teacher’s prompt or photo.

Grammar Quest, a grammar game the teacher opens for the class, uses Anthropic to write practice sentences from a grade level and grammar topics, with no student information; Kansha fills in classmates’ first names on its own servers. To read a fixed sentence aloud, it sends OpenAI’s speech service the sentence with the name taken out, and a first name on its own, with nothing that links it to a student, class, or school.

No student writing is sent to an AI provider. There is nowhere in Kansha for a student to type free text: a Token Swap thank-you note is picked from a short, fixed list of kind phrases. Roster records, avatars, and token history are never sent anywhere either.

Does Kansha use artificial intelligence?

Yes, as tools teachers start. Teachers can use AI to generate coin, branding, group-art, and store images, to get token-name and theme ideas, to identify a store item from a photo, and to write Grammar Quest practice sentences, which the teacher previews before the class sees them. Students do not chat with or get feedback from AI in Kansha — there is no AI tutor, no AI chat, and no AI marking of student work, and nothing a student writes is sent to an AI provider.

Is student data used to train AI models?

No student writing or roster records are sent to an AI provider, so there is nothing of a student’s for a model to train on. The providers receive what a teacher typed or photographed, grammar practice requests, and, for Grammar Quest’s read-aloud, a first name on its own to turn into speech. Each handles that under its own API terms. See the Sub-Processors section of our Privacy Policy for the full list.

Can I disable AI features?

You don’t need to. Each AI design tool runs only when you use it, so if you never use one, nothing is sent. Grammar Quest runs only when you open one for your class. The core Kansha experience — tokens, store, bank, raffles, and games — works exactly the same without any AI.

What AI providers does Kansha use?

Anthropic (token-name and theme suggestions, store item identification, coin spelling checks, Grammar Quest sentences), OpenAI (image generation, Grammar Quest read-aloud), and Google Gemini/Imagen (image generation). Kansha uses their commercial APIs over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Every request comes from a tool a teacher started; no roster record, and nothing a student produced, is sent to any of them.

Getting Started

How do teachers sign up?

Kansha is invitation-only while we grow, so there’s no open sign-up. Getting in is two steps:

  • Join the waiting list — tell us a little about yourself on the Request Access page. We open a few classrooms at a time
  • Redeem the access code we email you — when your place comes up, the code is what opens the door

Once you have a code, you choose how to sign in:

  • Google — sign in with your Google account (quickest)
  • A sign-in link — give us your email and we’ll send a link that signs you in. Nothing to invent or remember, and it confirms your address at the same time
  • Email & password — if you’d rather have one

After that, you’ll complete your profile with school information (linked to the National Center for Education Statistics database) and can start creating classrooms and adding roster records.

How do I set up my classroom?

Setting up a classroom takes just a few minutes:

  1. Create a Classroom — From your teacher dashboard, click “New classroom” and give it a name (e.g., “3rd Grade — Mrs. Johnson”)
  2. Build the Roster — Add students individually, paste a list, or import from Google Classroom
  3. Configure the Classroom Store — Define the rewards students can earn and price them in tokens
  4. Create Groups (Optional) — Organize students into teams for collaborative goals
  5. Start Awarding Tokens — Recognize positive behavior in the moment and watch the token economy take off
How do I import students from Google Classroom?

Google Classroom roster sync is available on the Silver and Premium plans. Connect your Google account from your teacher settings, then choose which Google Classroom class to import. Kansha pulls the student names and Google User IDs and builds the roster for you.

  • Student names are encrypted immediately on import — never stored in readable form
  • Resync at any time to pick up roster changes from Google Classroom
  • Disconnect Google Classroom whenever you want from your account settings

Privacy note: All Kansha privacy protections apply to imported rosters. Kansha is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google LLC.

How do students log in to check their token balance?

Students do not create their own accounts. Inside the classroom, they can log in using:

  • The classroom code that the teacher generates
  • A simple password assigned by the teacher (or auto-generated, in the format word-number, e.g. “elephant-234”)

Once logged in, students can view their token balance, browse the classroom store, and view items they have purchased. No email addresses, no dates of birth, no personal accounts.
